Emmanuel and Godiya: A Journey from Uncertainty to Opportunity

4/2/25, 4:00 PM

Emmanuel and Godiya's journey from uncertainty to opportunity through education.

Emmanuel and Godiya are siblings from the Agwan-Bassa1 community in Kwali. Tragedy struck when their father passed away from untreated kidney disease, and their mother left, leaving them in the care of their grandmother. With no financial support, Emma and Godiya watched from the sidelines as their peers attended school, learning to read and write while they remained at home.

In 2022, KEF stepped in. We welcomed them into our program and provided personalized home-school lessons designed to ignite their curiosity and build a strong academic foundation.  By 2024, when they demonstrated readiness for formal education, KEF fully sponsored their enrollment at DLA, one of the top private elementary schools in Kwali.

Our commitment didn’t stop at the scholarships. KEF also assigned dedicated school guardians at DLA to support Emma and Godiya academically and emotionally, ensuring they feel valued, guided, and empowered. Today, education is no longer a distant dream for them—it is their reality. With financial barriers removed and a strong support system in place, they can now pursue a secure future through the most proven path to breaking the cycle of poverty—education.

"Before KEF, I thought school was only for other children. Now, I know I can learn and become someone important." – Emmanuel

"I love my school! I want to become a teacher one day so I can help other children like KEF helped me." – Godiya

KEF believes that no child’s future should be defined by their socioeconomic background. Emma and Godiya’s story is just one of many that prove that with the right support, children can reclaim their right to education and build a future filled with opportunity.
