Emmanuel and Godiya: A Journey from Uncertainty to Opportunity

3/30/25, 5:00 PM

Emmanuel and Godiya, raised by their grandmother after losing their father, had limited access to education until JTL intervened. The nonprofit provided home-based math and English lessons, later sponsoring their enrollment in a top elementary school and supporting their transition through mentorship.

Emmanuel and Godiya, two siblings who reside in the Agwan-Bassa community in Kwali, faced an uncertain future after losing their father and being placed in their grandmother’s care in 2018. Education seemed out of reach for them, like many others, until Justice Through Literacy (JTL) stepped in.

JTL provided personalized homeschool lessons in math and English to ignite their curiosities and build their confidence in their potential. JTL further sponsored their enrollment to DLA, one of the top elementary private-owned schools in Kwali, and connected them with teachers who could personally mentor them at DLA. Today, for Godiya and Emmanuel, education is no longer a distant dream. It is their reality.

Through personalized home lessons in math and English, JTL sparked their curiosity and built their confidence. Once ready, we fully sponsored their enrollment at DLA—one of Kwali’s top elementary schools—and paired them with mentors to support their transition.

Today, education isn’t just a dream for Emmanuel and Godiya. It’s their reality.
